Having a designated space in your home to call your homeschool room is really nice! When we first started homeschooling, we used a finished room in our basement for all school storage and activities, and it was wonderful to be able to come upstairs, close the door behind us, and leave school stuff behind in a designated space. That all changed a couple years ago, when our basement flooded, and we had to rip out the entire finished area of our basement and have an elaborate basement drying system installed. We still haven't been able to re-finish our basement, so our homeschool room has more or less become simply homeschool storage, and we do our work in a variety of places.
Sometimes, we do school in the van as we're driving around. We listen to memory work, or bring math worksheets with us to complete on the way to our destination. Sometimes, we do school at the library, on days when we'd like a change of scenery and access to more books. Sometimes on nice days, we do school at the park, adding in some physical education, and working through our daily school tasks at a picnic table under a pavilion while we enjoy some fresh air. Most often, we do school at our kitchen table, and occasionally even on our front lawn on a picnic blanket. Whatever works for us, and whatever we feel like doing... that's what we do!
Homeschool rooms are so great, but I just want to encourage you, that if you don't have a home with a designated space in which to do school, you can still make it work! Try to find a storage solution that works for you where you can put your homeschool items at the end of each day, so they are out of the way during family time, and easy to find the next morning. In a separate post, I'll share some organization tips and tricks with you.
Blessings,
Beth
